Best Face Swap Apps

1. FaceApp

While already popular, FaceApp went viral when it released an aging filter as a feature in the app. Apart from this feature, it also offers some unique features that none of the above apps do. You start with taking a neutral picture of yourself, next you can make yourself smile, look older or young, change your gender, change your hair color, and even see yourself with glasses. The aging filter is based on machine learning and AI which means all the filters are procedurally stitched. It results in an organic picture that looks authentic. Check it out to see how you would look in a couple of years. Courtesy of MKBHD’s Twitter. https://twitter.com/MKBHD However, some features are locked and available in the pro version only. Judging by the free filters, I would recommend this app to everyone who is looking for a good face swap app. The app has no ads and offers in-app purchases. Install Face App (Android| iOS)

2. Reface

Next up, we have Reface. An AI-based face swapping app that lets you swap faces with celebrities in famous movies and music videos. It also has a set of popular memes as GIFs wherein you can swap your face. So, the famous coffin meme can have your face or your friend’s face. The app lets you save the videos on your local storage or share it on social media directly with a Reface watermark.

Reface also provides the option to upload your own GIFs. However, this feature is behind the paywall and you would have to pay around $3.99/month. Additionally, the subscription also removes the watermark and full-screen ads. Download Reface (Android | iOS)

3. MRRMRR

Yeah, that’s not a typo, its the actual name of the app, this app has many cool filters though. Mrrmrr is a face app that is powered by DeepAR, it also offers real-time filters and masks. The app has 4 categories emoji, masks, filters, and effects. Emoji doesn’t have many variations but three. You can be an animated emoji, Donald Trump, or Kanye West with this app. Thanks to its real-time face tracking algorithm. It captures your facial movements and applies it to the emoji to create an interactive emoji. The masks offer some of the unique varieties like rainbow drool, sunburn, cat ears, goth, anime, soda cap, etc.

You can either take a picture or a video with the masks on. Sharing the pictures is very easy, after every capture, it shows you a preview of the image and a few social media share buttons like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. Or you can directly save the picture to the photos or move it to your computer without iTunes. Install Mrrmrr  (Android | iOS)

4. Face Blender

The first app on the list, Face Blender is a funny selfie poster creator app with which you can blend your face into any picture. The app is simple enough and you won’t have to spend time figuring out controls. Just click a picture and choose a template to blend your face on that template. The app has over a hundred templates ranging from an astronaut to a gymnast.

The app automatically detects the face in the template and adjusts your face’s angle and orientation to fit the frame. If the templates aren’t enough, you can create your own face swaps by adding a picture from the Camera Roll or the Gallery app. Face Blender is free on the Play Store. Install Face Blender (Android)

5. Cupace

Cupace is another fun little app that offers face swap. Unlike Snapchat, Cupace lets you manually extract faces from an image and then paste it into other pictures. It has a three-step process – cut a face, choose an image, and paste the face on to the image. The face cutting tool offers a magnified view so that you don’t miss a part of your ear in the cutout. After the crop, the faces are saved in the app and you can begin pasting those cutouts on other people’s faces.

You can share your pictures with friends on social media directly from the app. Overall the app works okay but it lacks auto face detection feature which would have been great. Install Cupace (Android)

6. Face Swap by Microsoft

Unlike all the other apps we have seen so far, that lets you swap faces with other people or pictures from your camera roll; Face Swap by Microsoft, lets you swap your face on almost anything. Yes, pretty much anything. Take a new picture, fine-tune it a little, then use keywords to find an image from the Internet where you can replace the face with yours. It can be a celebrity, an animal, an astronaut, or even a wall. It automatically adjusts the skin tone and the texture to the surroundings. If it doesn’t align properly, I can rotate and expand my face to fit his frame, sounds simple enough?

The Face Swap app becomes a little complicated when you bring licensing into the picture. You may not be able to use all the images that show up in the app on your social media. The app is well built and the face swap through automatic isn’t perfect for every picture, thankfully you can always manually align the pictures to fit the different frame sizes. Install Face Swap (Android, APK Mirror)

7. Portrait AI

Portrait AI is a simple app that converts your pictures to a 1980’s portrait painting and that’s it. The app astonishingly works great and the paintings don’t look like some filter snapped on your face. There are developed by an AI algorithm by examining your face in the painting. On a side note, if your paintings look European, that’s a slight AI bias. The AI in the app is currently only trained with European faces and it leans slightly that side.

Apart from this, it has a couple of other filters and a video mode. They are currently behind the paywall at the moment starting at $3.99/month. Download PortraitAI (Android | iOS)

8. Snapchat

Snapchat is the most popular app that offers face swap with someone else in your photo or video, or even from your camera roll. Simply, launch the app and switch to the front-facing camera, next tap on your face until you see white mesh lines over your face. That’s Snapchat analyzing your face. Now, swipe left until you find the face swap option and now you can swap your face with anyone in real-time or even from the photo library of your phone. To save the image, tap the circle at the bottom with the face swap icon. You can take photos ranging from funny to unflattering with Snapchat and hide it on your phone. Update: Snapchat is always adding exciting filters that take over the internet pretty quickly. Make sure you check those out. For instance, this baby filter has taken over the internet by storm and is surprisingly very cute.

Some people have complained about the laggy performance of the app on Android phones. So, if you’re are not using Snapchat already, there is no need to install it, just for its Face Swap features. That said, there are many apps out there that offer these features as standalone apps. Let’s check those out. Install Snapchat (Android | iOS)
