How to Connect Facebook Messenger to Instagram

You can connect your accounts in the Accounts Center on either Facebook or Instagram app. The steps are largely the same and you can find the settings easily on any of the apps. For this article, I’d use Facebook Messenger to connect the Instagram account but you shouldn’t face any issues if you use Instagram.

  1. Open Facebook Messenger app on your phone and tap the avatar on the top left corner to open app settings. Scroll down and find Account settings.
  2. On the Account Settings page, scroll down and find Accounts Center. Tap Set up Accounts Center to proceed.
  3. It would open a login page where you need to enter your Instagram credentials to authenticate and link your account with Facebook Messenger. Enter the username and password to proceed.
  4. Press Continue and tap Yes, Finish Setup. Now, your Facebook and Instagram accounts are linked. You can go ahead and simply find your Instagram friends in the Messenger app by simply searching in the search bar. You would see the description reads “Instagram” to distinguish the contact from Facebook contacts. When you send a message from Facebook Messenger to Instagram, it would show up like a normal chat in the Instagram app. However, it would be labeled Facebook to distinguish from other Instagram chats. Sometimes the request would go straight to Message Requests folder if you’re contacting someone for the first time. Other than that, there are no problems with Cross-app messaging.

Final Thoughts

This was a quick way to connect your Facebook and Instagram accounts to enable cross-app messaging. It is particularly useful for me as I don’t really use the Instagram app but I still need to stay in contact with my friends on Instagram.
